One hurdle I didn't really consider was traffic. While Ourtakes has visitors, readers, and active posters, this little blog doesn't. So, I am writing this article as a challenge to Atheists out there. Post your questions, contradictions and problems with the bible here so I, and some of the Christian readers here, can try to answer them.
Atheists, this is your chance to show us why we are wrong. I know many of the posters on
Do you really seek the truth as you claim?
What issues do you have with Christianity being true?
I don't claim to have all the answers to the questions that will be asked. I probably don't know the answers to most of them. I really would like to study and find them. Atheists are skeptics, I am also a skeptic. I naturally question most things I hear and am told. But, I am skeptic that believes in Jesus.

Which parts of the Bible are literally true, and which are simply allegory?
I'd say the entire bible is literally true. In parts, there may be imagery used or a parable.
Do you have a specific part of the bible that you question whether or not is literally true?
Is the order of creation in Genesis literally true?
Yes, the order of creation is true. I think I know what is coming but I will await your question.
In Genesis, the earth is created before light and stars, birds and whales before reptiles and insects, and flowering plants before any animals.
If this is literally true, why does all the evidence we have seen contradict it?
Finally, if you want to take on supposed contradictions, just go to the Skeptics Annotated Bible's Contradictions page
You'll see in most of the 388 contradictions that there's a Christian trying to refute them, usually by saying "Oh, that part's allegory and this other part isn't."
I will try to tackle the Genesis issue the best I can in my next post.
As far as the SAB goes, there are so many supposed contradictions listed in that thing, many of which are ridiculous and don't put up a strong argument, there are also many that do. I would love to do this on a scale that large but at this point I am starting small, with issues that people like yourself have.
I'm not Bible scholar, but I'd probably point to the contradictions pointed out by SAB.
Then I'd add that I have no reason to think that the Bible is anything more than a work of fiction. It might be a very important and revered work of fiction, but it's still no basis for believing in god. This is especially true in light of the lack of evidence for the existence of a god.
Hey Icelander, It's been a while. Define "literal". We have to have the same dictionary to have an intelligent conversation.

Icelander, Whats the evidence that shows that insects and flowering plants were around before any animals?
I'd say the entire bible is literally true.
The Bible says the Earth is flat.
"The tree grew large and strong and its top touched the sky; it was visible to the ends of the earth."
Daniel 4:11
Christian fundamentalists like Sherri Sheppard, who place the Bible scripture such as Daniel 4:11, over the science behind round Earth theory are fools, plain and simple. There's no nice way of putting it.
Icelander, I am going to need you to answer Fish's post before I can answer your "contradiction". I have thought about it and I need to be sure your presupposition is true before I can really try to understand it. I don't pretend to know much about science.
"Icelander, Whats the evidence that shows that insects and flowering plants were around before any animals?"
Fossils of insects and plants predate all vertebrate fossils.
I have specific questions...why does no where in the annals of history record the Jews as slaves to the Egyptians except in the bible?
Why is the story of Jesus' birth exactly the same as numerous gods from prior history?
Why would anyone follow a god that killed and enslaved millions of people (in the OT) just because they didn't believe in him, when he had the power to change their hearts?
If the entire bible is literally true, why are there so many contradctions?
Why was god not more clear about what he wanted his church to be, allowing his word to be subdivided a hundred different ways?
If the holy spirit has to call on me for me to take the word of god as my direction and salvation, but he/she/it doesn't and I go to hell because I don't believe in god, didn't god just set me up?
How did Noah get all of the marsupials back to Australia?
Why do modern christians only follow the parts of the bible that they want (ie: they're all about "god hates fags", but they don't stone their children for cursing them. those verses are very close to each other in leviticus)?...
If Jesus was the savior of the Jews, why didn't / don't the Jews follow him?
And then: let's say that their not following him doesn't contradict that he was here to save them; they just are ignorant to it...then how did Hitler kill so many of them? Should they not have had immunity to such things?
Why does the pope want abstinence to be taught as the only safe-sex when the entire religion he represents is based on the idea that a virgin gave birth?
Ok, that one's silly...
How is it that the pope, arguably one of the richest and most powerful positions in the world, will get into heaven if a rich man getting there is as likely as a camel passing through the eye of a needle?
Why does the church try to paint Mary Magdalene as a prostitute when that's not what the bible says?
If God is all knowing, why did he end up regretting making Saul King?
I mean, I know Saul didn't follow his orders to kill everyone the way God wanted, but wouldn't have God known that Saul was going to do that?
